READY, SET, FISH!
The Gulf of Mexico off Crystal River is an angler’s treasure chest of fishing opportunities. The short boat ride from The Plantation gets you to the fish quickly and variety is the key.
Fall is a great time because just about everything will be in season…including grouper, snapper, snook and triggerfish! Plus, all the inshore species will be putting on their feedbags for the winter like tarpon, speckled trout, flounder, redfish and the denizens of the bay… GOLIATH GROUPER!
If you’ve never been to a Fish ‘N Fest…this is definitely a don’t-miss destination. And if you had a blast in St. Augustine this past spring, you’re in for another super treat in Crystal River.
SO, WHAT EXACTLY IS A FISH ‘N FEST?
Fish ‘N Fest events are not fishing tournaments. Instead, it’s a long weekend for participants to discover a unique fishing destination and explore the area amenities while making friends on the water. You don’t need to own (or bring) a boat to experience the fun of saltwater fishing at a Fish ‘N Fest. We engage the services of local professional fishing guides to give our attendees a wonderful time on the water. Of course, if you want to bring your boat, these same guides will offer tips and contemporary knowledge on where, and how, to fish the area.
The Fall ’22 Fish ‘N Fest kicks off Thursday afternoon with registration at the Plantation. Attendees pickup their goodie bags and have the chance to compete in the world-famous Casting Contest. Test your casting skills with the newest rods from American Tackle Company and Mots Custom Rods.
The evening festivities include a social hour on the Plantation’s huge lawn that overlooks the river. Thursday night’s Welcome Banquet is the place to reconnect with friends from past Fish ‘N Fest events; and make new friends of the first-time attendees we call Fish ‘N Fest Freshmen. Someone will walk away with one of two custom fishing rods from Mots Custom Rods, and lots of other prizes.
Friday morning, we gather at the docks for the start of the first of two days of fishing. Fall is the perfect time to be in Crystal River. Inshore, nearshore and offshore species roam the clear waters, ready to do battle with our anxious anglers. Each guide boat can accommodate up to four anglers, and you’ll get to learn new fishing tactics while enjoying some awesome scenery.
Lots of folks come early and fish on their own, or stay a couple days after to fish, explore and enjoy the abundance of unique outdoor opportunities from golf to paddling to swimming with the manatees in the nearby springs.

Friday night, attendees are on their own to venture out and experience the nightlife and cuisine in the area, or just hang at the Plantation for a great meal and sunset.
We will also be continuing the Kiddie Pole Fishing Contest, started in St. Augustine. Friday night, four anglers will win Kiddie Poles, and compete for the biggest fish caught on these mini-rods.
Saturday, we do it all over again. Fishing, fellowship, and fun on the water. Saturday night is the Celebration Banquet where we hand out the coveted First-To-Chum Award, and crown the inshore and nearshore Kahunas of the weekend. At least one lucky individual will take home a Free Ride to the Spring Fish ‘N Fest including free fishing, accommodations and nighttime activities.
Our off-the-water headquarters is The Plantation on Crystal River…a top-shelf property right on the river and just a short boat ride to the Gulf. The Plantation has everything on site…wonderful food, a wide variety of outdoor adventures, golf, and more. We have room block for Nuts & Bolts Fish ‘N Fest, with a nice discount. Make your reservations by calling 800-632-6262, which is the On-Site Reservations Dept. Also, we have the block extended from October 10 – 19th, so if you want to come early, or stay a couple days later, you can get the same discounted rates.
